Walking has so many benefits & can give you a healthy mind & a healthy body.

Try & incorporate it into your day. Could you walk to school or work? Could you park a little bit further away from the door when you’re going to the supermarket?

Do whatever you feel comfortable with, even 10 minutes is good, then as you get more used to it you can increase the amount you do!

BENEFITS

Walking boosts the production of endorphins which elevate your mood & make you feel relaxed. It’s a great way to clear your mind whilst you focus on what’s around you, whether it’s a forest of trees or a residential street.

It increases blood flow to the brain which enhances cognitive skills. It's the perfect thing to do before a test as it'll boost your brain power & help you feel relaxed.

Walking is great for reducing stress & anxiety. If you've had a stressful day then take yourself for a walk. It'll calm your mind & it'll help you get a good nights sleep.

WHERE SHOULD I GO?

Look for local walks in your area. Parks, reservoirs, & forests are great & will usually have a few different routes of varying lengths.

Walking groups are great if you'd like some company. There are groups suitable for all ages & abilities.

If you have a dog, take it for a different walk than you usually do. Explore your local area & look for dog clubs that you could join & meet like-minded dog lovers.

There are loads of apps you can use to track your routes & how far you've walked.

Get out there & explore!

A MINDFUL WALK

Use your senses to fully immerse yourself into your walk.

What can you smell?

Newly cut grass? Flowers?

SIGHTS

What are you surrounded by?

Trees/houses/buildings/people/cars/animals?

FEELING

Feel the ground under your feet

Is it hard/soft/flat/hilly?

HEART RATE

As you keep walking, feel your heart rate increasing

FEEL THE BREEZE

Feel the air hitting your face.

Does it feel cool/warm/gentle/harsh?

BODY TEMPERATURE

Feel your body warming up

WEATHER

Is it cloudy/sunny/raining?

END OF WALK

How are your body & mind feeling?

Are you feeling tired or energised?

Do you have aching muscles & a high heart rate?

Does your mind feel clearer?

Do you feel more at peace?

Walking is beneficial in so many ways, & best of all, it's free! Take that first step & go on an adventure. Clear your mind, make your body fitter, & de-stress.

Keep it up, & soon you could be climbing mountains!
